Supplements can't replace the goodness

Like many of you, I take supplements religiously. Slight problem - I don't eat healthily at all!
Now I've started getting severe indigestion - the real acid burning stuff antacid advertisements are made of.

My body is too acidic and the only way to get it back to a healthy alkaline state (and keep it there) is to eat lots of organic, leafy, green vegetables - preferrably raw so that the enzymes can be retained.

Acidic bodies lead to chronic diseases like arthritis, gout, and a plethora of skin disorders. No pills required...

Weight Loss is about Acid!!

One of the many reasons why I started to get more and more convinced of the benefits of a holistic approach to health is my constant battle with the scales.

We're visiting our friends Gary & Ingrid in Tonbridge, UK and are simultaneously getting the most wonderful education on nutrition!

They've introduced me to the book The pH Miracle for Weight Loss (available at Amazon). This is a complete lifestyle plan.

If you're part of the 45% of American women and 30% of American men or 23% of British women and 21% of British men, then this lifestyle could be your solution to a healthy old age, without aches and cramps and none of the chronic diseases that we have come to accept as part of "old age"!

How to set a table

Interesting stuff that we all seem to be unsure about - how to set a table:

The latter is for my benefit! I always forget which side the wine glasses go!

Migraine Headache Symptoms

Bless you Dr Jan Brandes!!
At last somebody agrees that my regular, monthly migraines are actually related to my fluctuating hormone levels.
Luckily it does not have to be a burden to bear alone any more:
Replace diary with soy, get enough sleep (but not too much) and try to have more balanbce in the week or so before menstruation! In addition. take a daily paracetamol to attack the attack before it starts.

Migraine symptoms include at least 2 of the following:
  • headache on one side of the head,
  • pain that's moderate to severe,
  • and in quality throbbing or pulsing,
  • or it is made worse by routine activity.

You only have to have two of those four pain characteristics to meet diagnostic criteria for the headache phase of migraine.
You will also have one of four symptoms which are nausea, and/or vomiting and sensitivity to light, (sometimes called photo phobia), and sensitivity to sound (phono phobia).

SAD or Seasonal Affective (SAD) Disorder?

Funny how some of us can feel terribly "down" when the weather remains gloomy for a while, isn't it?
Scientists and psychologists have found that our moods can be affected by the weather and have called it Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD disorder for short. According to the SAD disorder Association website in Brittain (http://www.sada.org.uk/), more than half a million people are affected each year and more during the dreary November, December and January months.

Light therapy using SAD Light boxes is proven to effectively treat SAD, winter blues, PMS, Bulimia and Chronic Fatique Syndrome

Holistic Health Centres

We drove past a bautiful holistic health centre in Huddersfield (UK).
I'm making an appointment for an introductory visit - I'm not aware of one in Australia.

Over imbibed?

We explored everything Manchester had to offer yesterday and am feeling the effects of that today!
For the first time in my life, I'm experiencing the burning discomfort of indigestion. What a bum deal! Just thinking of food or drink turns my stomach.
I can now totally appreciate the visual images of a pot of acid bubbling away - what do you do to recover without taking Rennies or other antacids?
Mine went away the next day - must have been all those Belgian fruit beers, but what if it had carried on?

Have a facial!

If you've ever wondered what you can do to improve your holistic health, go and have a facial!

I had one today and the whole world seems a better place. My skin is glowing and the knots in my shoulders are gone. My husband thinks my smile is more relaxed and I think the sky is suddenly a deeper, more beautiful shade of blue!

Go on, have one!

High Blood Pressure

I am sure everybody shares in the feeling of (almost) surprise to see how our loved ones changed after 4 years of absence.
We grow older, fatter, slower, funnier, more stressed, less stressed & unfortunately, sometimes, sicker.
What is it with modern medicine that a lady of 74, with osteoporosis, can be prescribed 13 different pills to take daily and she is feeling sicker than she has in years?

Or a man of 75, who has never been sick in his life, now has high blood pressure and ends up taking 4 tablets a day - 1 for the high blood pressure, one for cholesterol, one for the diarrhea brought on by the other 2 and one for the headaches he now regularly gets!!

Has medicine gone mad? Or are we too readily accepting the diagnoses of wellmeaning but overworked health workers?

Jetlag

Having just arrived after a longhaul flight from Australia to Manchester in the United Kingdom, I am feeling the effects of jetlag quite keenly.
30 hours after we've left home in sunny Brisbane, having crossed 9 timezones, we've finally arrived. None of my good intentions to alleviate jetlag actually worked!

Something to investigate more fully in our newsletter!

Forgetfulness

It's a mad rush!
Getting ready for 4 weeks out of your routine, starts challenging your organisational skills - big time!!
I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff. I've got little yellow post-it notes everywhere, I'm fortgetting to drink enough water and I'm feeling the effects. Sluggish functioning of the bowel and not enough hydration makes us forgetful!

Note to self: Drink your water!!
